THE AMERICAN VEGAN SOCIETY ANNOUNCES MAY 26 PICNIC AND SPEAKER

Picnic: Asparagus and strawberries from local farms will be featured at the American Vegan Society's picnic in Malaga at noon on Sunday May 26.

A fresh herb and carrot dressing will accompany the asparagus. The strawberries will be served with a vanilla dipping cream made with pears and cashews. Also on the menu will be potato salad, veggie burgers, nut cheese with rice crackers, and plenty more.

All are invited. Cost for picnic is $10. Remit in advance to American Vegan Society PO Box 369, Malaga NJ 08328. Call 856 694-2887 for directions or late reservations.

The Environmental Impact of Our Society's Meat Centered Diet will be the subject of a talk by Pamela Rice on Sunday, May 26, at 2 pm, in Malaga, New Jersey at the headquarters of the American Vegan Society, 56 Dinshah Lane.

Pamela Rice is the founder of Vegetarian Center of New York City and the author of the popular 16-page pamphlet "101 Reasons Why I'm a Vegetarian" http://www.vivavegie.org . She will explain the inefficiency of cycling grain through animals to create meat, and the extent of pollution caused by animal farming. She will also show how the meat industry is propped up by government subsidies.

Book Sale. The American Vegan Society teaches compassionate living through its magazine, meetings, and publications. Books and videos will be on sale May 26 at bargain prices.
